Privacy Policy
Last updated: March 2026
1. Overview
TrainWhen ("we", "our", or "the site") is a free tool that helps Indian rail travellers calculate IRCTC advance booking dates. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights as a user.
We are committed to protecting your privacy. We do not collect, store, or sell any personally identifiable information.
2. Information We Collect
2.1 Information You Provide
When you use the booking date calculator, you enter journey dates, train numbers, and station codes. This information is:
- Used only to calculate your booking date in real time
- Stored locally on your device (browser localStorage) for the "Recent Searches" feature
- Never transmitted to our servers except when you click "Update Result" to look up a train schedule (see Section 4)
2.2 Automatically Collected Information
We do not use server-side logging to track individual users. Standard web server access logs (IP address, browser type, referring URL) may be retained by our hosting provider (Vercel) for security and performance purposes, subject to their own privacy policy.
2.3 Preferences Stored Locally
The following preferences are stored in your browser's localStorage and never sent to us:
- Language preference (English or Hindi)
- Theme preference (dark or light mode)
- Recent searches (last 3 journey date + train combinations)
You can clear this data at any time by clearing your browser's localStorage or site data.
3. Cookies
TrainWhen does not use first-party cookies. However, third-party services embedded on the site (such as Google AdSense, if enabled) may set their own cookies for advertising personalisation. See Section 5 for details.
You can control or disable cookies through your browser settings. Disabling cookies will not affect the core functionality of TrainWhen.
4. Third-Party Services
4.1 RailRadar API
When you use the "Travelling on an overnight train?" feature and click "Update Result", your train number, boarding station code, and journey date are sent to our server, which queries the RailRadar API (railradar.in) to retrieve the train schedule. No personally identifiable information is sent. RailRadar's own privacy policy governs how they handle this data.
4.2 Google AdSense (Planned)
We plan to display advertisements served by Google AdSense. When enabled, Google may use cookies and device identifiers to serve personalised ads based on your browsing history. You can opt out of personalised advertising via Google's Ad Settings.
4.3 Vercel (Hosting)
TrainWhen is hosted on Vercel. Vercel may collect standard server access logs. See Vercel's Privacy Policy for details.
5. Data Retention
We do not maintain a database of user data. Your recent searches and preferences exist only in your own browser's localStorage and are deleted when you clear your browser data. We have no ability to access or delete this data on your behalf.
6. Children's Privacy
TrainWhen is not directed at children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect any personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information through our site, please contact us and we will take appropriate steps.
7. Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have rights including:
- The right to know what data we hold about you
- The right to request deletion of your data
- The right to opt out of personalised advertising
Since we do not store personal data on our servers, most requests can be fulfilled by clearing your browser's localStorage. For any other requests, contact us at the address below.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. Continued use of TrainWhen after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
